Talk: Frank Wild: Yorkshire to Antarctica - Henrietta Hammant

Frank Wild from Skelton-in-Cleveland holds the record for the most trips to the Antarctic made by any explorer during the Heroic Age of exploration at the start of the 20th century. He is most famous, however, for being Ernest Shackleton’s right-hand man, accompanying him on every one of his expeditions to the far South. This talk, by Henrietta Hammant from the Scott Polar Research Institute, will consider what challenges the Antarctic presented for explorers at the turn of the century and will reveal Ernest and Frank’s incredible stories of survival. But most importantly, it will answer the question: why did Frank keep going back?
